The Australian cotton industry’s second five-year Sustainability Report released today has revealed producing a bale of cotton now takes 48% less water, 34% less land, and 97% less insecticides than in 1992.

The exotic pest fall armyworm (FAW) Spodoptera frugiperda has been detected for the first time in Australia, in the northern Torres Strait and Northern Queensland. CRDC and Cotton Australia are calling for people to be aware of what the pest looks like and be alert to its presence.

Some 35 representatives of the cotton industry attended evokeAG in Melbourne this week, including a cohort of cotton growers who were supported to attend by CRDC.
