Did you know? Cotton plants are naturally drought tolerant and able to thrive in arid climates. And, the water used to grow cotton is a constant focus of research to ensure every drop counts.
Cotton growers and the Australian Government have been investing in research, development and extension to improve cotton's environmental footprint, including its water use efficiency, for over 25 years.
As a result of irrigation technologies, on-farm management practices, and new cotton varieties over this time, Australian cotton growers have almost halved the water needed to grow one bale of cotton.
And the work doesn't stop there. Cotton's sustainability target is to increase irrigated water use efficiency by 12.5 per cent every five years.
