The 2022 ABARES Science and Innovation Awards for Young People in Agriculture - supported by CRDC - are now open.

CRDC is encouraging young researchers aged 18-35 to apply for a grant valued at up to $22,000 to fund an innovative research project that will benefit Australia's cotton industry.

As a sponsor of the Awards program, run by the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment, CRDC supports and rewards young scientists for their exploration of concepts and the creation of new knowledge in the pursuit of scientific breakthroughs.

Recent recipients of the cotton award are Dr Dinesh Kafle (2020) and Demi Sargent (2021).

Dinesh’s novel project investigated whether cotton plants could be primed with silicone to boost their defences against fusarium wilt and reniform nematode. Demi's innovative research project is helping to shield the cotton industry from the effects of climate change.

Further information and application forms are available from the Department’s website:  www.agriculture.gov.au/scienceawards. Applications close 5pm AEST, Friday 1 October.
