Mr Richard Haire has today been announced as the new Chair for CRDC by the Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources, the Hon. Barnaby Joyce MP.
Mr Haire is a well-known and respected member of the Australian cotton industry, having held many leadership positions within the sector. Most recently, he was Managing Director and Regional Head of Olam International, and prior to this, CEO of Queensland Cotton. He is a member of the Rabo Australia Food and Agribusiness Advisory Board, and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Australian Institute of Management.
Mr Haire is also a former CRDC Director, having served on the CRDC board from 2011 to 2014.
CRDC Executive Director Bruce Finney welcomed Mr Haire back to the CRDC board and into his position as Chair.
“I look forward to working closely with Mr Haire on our strategic investment in cotton RD&E to improve the profitability and productivity of growers and the industry,” Mr Finney said.
In his statement today, Minister Joyce noted the wealth of knowledge Mr Haire brings to CRDC.
“I welcome Mr Haire’s leadership in this role to ensure that targeted and intelligent investment in cotton RD&E continues to support a profitable, competitive and sustainable industry,” Minister Joyce said.
Minister Joyce also thanked outgoing CRDC chair, Dr Mary Corbett, who served as a Director on the CRDC Board from 2008, and as Chair from 2013. Mr Finney paid tribute to Dr Corbett for her contribution to CRDC during this period.
“Dr Corbett has provided sound and strategic leadership to CRDC and the cotton industry during her three years as Chair and eight years on the Board. On behalf of the Board and CRDC, I thank her for her wise counsel and her lasting contribution to Australian cotton.”
