International research cooperation: CottonInc visits CRDC (19 March 2015)

Members of the research team from Cotton Incorporated - the US's cotton research, development and marketing organisation - spent a week in Australia last week, meeting with CRDC to identify areas for increased research collaboration.

CRDC arranged for several visits with Australian growers, ginners and Cotton Australia for the Cotton Inc team, to help them better understand the Australian cotton production system.

Several opportunities were identified for further collaboration, including drought tolerance research, harvest systems management, insect resistance monitoring, contamination detection, and a joint country effort to ensure commercial technology providers (eg. agricultural machinery and fibre quality instrumentation) are aware of the needs of mechanised cotton producers.

In addition to farm and gin issues, strategies were discussed on how the two countries could leverage support of textile research to maximise benefits to the cotton industry.
