Dr Sharon Downes, a team leader with CSIRO at the Australian Cotton Research Institute at Narrabri, has been selected as a participant in Course 21 of the Australian Rural Leadership Program (ARLP), sponsored by CRDC and Auscott.
Sharon, who is part of CSIRO’s Ecosystem Science Division’s Resistance Evolution research team, works closely with plant breeders on insecticide resistance management.
Sharon will join 28 other leaders from rural industries in the program, which aims to develop high-level leadership capabilities as well as business, strategic planning and valuable interpersonal skills among course participants.
The course begins in May 2014 and runs for 59 days over 17 months. It includes challenge-based education, workshops and an overseas field study. The ARLP works to improve the capacity of rural leaders to engage wherever a challenge is best addressed and wherever they can contribute most effectively.
Applications for Course 22 of the ARLP (commencing May 2015) are open from now until 31 July 2014.
